How to play

The rules of the original PlayCulture game.

The aim

Leave the island on a boat with as much gold as possible. Usually this means teaming up with other wealthy pirates.

Trading Post

Safe zone

You can buy and sell items here. No murder inside the shop.

Buying

Swords and rope are bought by bartering with the shopkeeper. Other items and roles come from the shop page, which you open when you are near the Trading Post.

Reincarnation

Without ghost mode, the Trading Post is where you are reincarnated after you die.

Swords and combat

Swords come from the shop. You have to hit the body, not the limbs or head.
If it's unclear who hit first, take a few steps back and go again.
Swords are one-use. The murdered player returns the sword to the nearest Trading Post.
Swords can be passed between players but not thrown. An unattended sword outside a shop is yours.
Ropecuffs (optional): with a rope and a sword, hit someone then choose to murder them or tie them up. They hold the rope and follow you until someone unties the knot.

Wanted level

Your wanted level runs from 0 to 5 stars. With a wanted level you may be pursued by Kingsmen and can't buy new items. You can pay off your bounty at any Trading Post.

Kingsmen earn more gold by bringing a wanted player back to a Trading Post alive and choosing Deliver Prisoner.

Dying

ModeWhat happens
Death buttonBoth players scan each other's codes. The dead player sees a countdown and must stand still. If it ends before the murderer scans, they live on.
LootThe killer takes all of the victim's items, real and in-app. Chests buried in the ground are safe.
Normal modeAfter a short timeout the game leader reincarnates you at the Trading Post.
Ghost modeYou become a ghost and collect aura. Over 1000 aura you can reincarnate yourself with 10% of your aura as gold.

Items, maps and digging

Items

Everything you own: gold pieces, gold bars, gemstones and special items. Send items to other players with the exchange arrows.

Maps

A map shows a compass and the distance to its target. You can make your own to lead you back to where you were.

Digging

Bury and dig up chests. Chests are tied to a place and the deeper they are, the longer they take to dig up. Anyone who digs there finds them. You must stay still while digging.

Boats and harbours

You can only set sail with a boat, at high tide, which happens towards the end of the game.
Boats have 1 to 9 seats. The owner is the captain and adds crew by scanning their codes.
Go to a harbour and board. Leave a few minutes to pick your crew.
Once you set sail your game is finished. If you fail to leave, you are shown as a landlubber on the leaderboard.

First actions

You start with a treasure map to a randomly placed chest. It may not be reachable, so if it points somewhere wet, dangerous or private, consider the chest lost and use clever tactics instead. Teams are allowed, but you don't have to stick to them.

Based on the PlayCulture Pirate Gold page and example welcome script.
